While some, such as Sauternes' Chateau d'Yquem, still fetch a pretty penny the demand for the lusciously viscous vinous treats is but a fraction of a fraction of what it once was. This is a great shame because these wines our some of the most complex, long lived, and enjoyable wines out there. Here are 5 sweet wines that you absolutely must try before you die.   1. Klein Constantia - Vin de Constance
    The sweet wine of Constantia is what Napoleon requested while in exile on the remote island of St Helena...he drank a bottle a day!
  2. Ice Wine or Eiswein
    Ice Wine is the most concentrated, intensely sweet, pure wine out there. It's like delicious alcoholic grape juice. But, it's really, really, hard to make so we need to drink more so these crazy vignerons keep making it!
  3. Tokaji Aszu - 5 or 6 Puttonyos
    Tokaji is famously dubbed the wine of kings and the king of wines. This golden nectar was nearly lost to the ruthless senselessness of Communism. Thankfully it was rescued once the Iron Curtain fell.
  4. Sauternes
    Thomas Jefferson reckoned Sauternes was the best wine in France - he liked it so much he bought 250 bottles of the 1784 vintage for himself and more for his mate George Washington.
  5. Jurançon
    Jurançon is the sweet, luscious nectar traditionally used to baptize French Royal in the hope to bless them with a long, joyful, and healthy life.
